Growing In God, Growing In Community

OUR CULTURE

Our Culture
There is an overwhelming need for our local church to reach the urban community in the Denton area. By urban, we are referring to those influenced by the pop culture of today. We are all affected by the pressures of pop (popular) culture — this new culture bleeds into many different ethnicities and covers many different socio-economic backgrounds, and is no longer just reaching one people type. Today, the media is clearly targeting a group which has been characterized as the MTV generation, as Gen-X, or as the Hip-Hop culture. There is not a family in America not affected by this new trend heavily influenced by the urban culture regardless of race or social status. We see its influence manifested in the popular dress styles, in the music that is enjoyed, as well as in other areas of our society. While we do not see this culture as being intrinsically negative, it is what society has done with this culture that potentially begins to draw people further from God.

OUR COMMUNITY

Our Community
There are over 80,000 residents in Denton and approximately 60% range between the ages of 15 to 44; this does not include the overwhelming number of the more than 50,000 college students at UNT and TWU. We believe this generation, the 60%, and the college students are the group that is primarily affected by the urban culture above mentioned. The problem is that currently there are not any churches committed, trained, and gifted to reach out to the people of this culture. While we, Lifeline Bible Fellowship , are not willing to water down the gospel in order to be affective, we think there has to be a change of style — there is an overwhelming need to make God known to them in both a culturally relevant and doctrinally sound manner.

OUR CAUSE

Our Cause
God has burdened us to equip individuals for this huge need, training them to infiltrate our diverse community. We hope to do this by showing the relevancy of God’s Word to the urban culture — just like every other nonbeliever, we have to meet them where they are at and with the culture/style that they enjoy and to which they are accustomed. Our goal and overwhelming desire is to reach EVERY PERSON in the Denton Community influenced by this culture.
